With all the shuffling thats been seen in the search engine world within the last year, the issue of obvious optimizing has become a hot button. The current line of thinking is that most engines (especially Google) are on the lookout for sites that purposely make an effort to optimize their pages in order to get high rankings. While this theory has not been proven, I agree that obvious optimization is not a good thing. Not exclusively because of what Google might think, but because of what your site visitors might think.
When a Web site is created with the intent of having it ranked highly, one thing often happens. The focus gets placed solely on the optimization and is taken almost completely away from the visitor. This leaves your site in a dangerous state of unbalance. Lets take a look at some examples.

I cant count how many times Ive visited Web design sites that were targeting local audiences and found copy similar to this example. Forget for a moment that this copy is completely me, us, we, our centered, and let me ask you a question.
If someone asked you what your company did would you say, Web design or New Orleans Web design? Yes, I know the keyphrase is New Orleans Web design, but using that phrase interchangeably with Web design shatters the flow of natural language. Breaking up that phrase will help you retain your appeal to the engines and your site visitors. It will also keep you from appearing to be over optimized.
Youll also want to vary your terms to avoid absolutely bombarding the reader (and the engines) with the same keyphrases. That *may* mean the need for longer copy *if* your target audience is one that would respond well to longer copy.
Try this instead:
Progressive, creative, upbeat. Those are phrases that best describe many online businesses based in New Orleans. Web design for your organization should match your style. Never created from templates, the site designs youll receive will be truly reflective of your corporate personality. Because we work exclusively with companies located in or near New Orleans, Web designs retain that Big Easy feel.
See the difference? By breaking the phrase up, you work with the flow of natural language instead of against it. To your site visitors and the engines, it appears the phrase is just part of a written conversation instead of something that has been purposely (and carelessly) tossed in for the sole benefit of higher rankings.
So, is the flow of your current copy destroyed by keywords? Are you scaring off both the engines and your visitors? One quick check can help you decide. Read your copy out loud. (Or better yet, have someone else read your copy out loud.) Does it sound odd? Does reading it feel forced or stiff? Would the sentences youve written in your copy seem out of place in the course of a verbal conversation with someone? If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, you might better take a closer look at your Web page.

Off-page Optimization
Unfortunately optimizing your WebPages is not enough; the search engines have developed a “system” where the ranking of a website is determined by its “Link Popularity”. This system was first developed by Google and now many other search engines like yahoo search and msn are doing the same. So to get a top page ranking you must get as many websites linking to you as possible. Before I tell you how to increase your link popularity I have to tell you about the other major factors in off-page optimization.
1) Anchor Text: This is the text that is hyperlinked to send people to your website. Anchor text MUST contain a few of your main keywords because google uses it to determine your websites relevance to a particular topic.
2) The website that links to you: If the website that links to you is related to your site then thats a huge bonus to you. So look for websites that are related to your website’s topic.
You now know that it’s vital that you use an anchor text that includes your main keywords. For example if you remember from day2, the title that I chose was “Yo Mama Joke | Blonde Joke Online”. Now a good anchor text that can include my main keywords would be that title! You also should know that in order to get a good ranking you must seek out websites that are closely related to your own website and get them to link to you.
To get your website on “its feet” you can start by submitting your website to popular directories. These directories are free but you can always pay for a guaranteed placement ($$). Now I have here some links that should be more than enough to get you started.

Now the next step is to look for link partners. I can’t stress this enough, you have to find partners with websites related to your own website. What I have here are four link-exchange directories that you can sign up to and start exchanging links with people. These are great and will get you hundreds of sites that may link to you. I suggest you install a link directory script on your website and add all the websites that you want to exchange links with. After adding their link just send them an email and approach them professionally. You can use an email like this:

Build your site on a good foundation
Your web site structure is the foundation to high search engine ranking. If you build your website with the wrong structure, anything else you do to promote your web site will be crippled from the start. The most costly mistake you could do to cripple your SEO efforts is to build your web site using frames.
Using Frames makes your job so much harder
Using frames on your site makes it much more difficult to achieve high search engine ranking. Does it make it impossible? No, but it does make it much more difficult. With all the competition already our there for achieving high search engine rankings on competitive keywords, why would you want to make your work harder than it has to be?
How do frames prevent high rankings?
If you go to any web site that has frames, right click anywhere on the page, and choose ‘view source’, you’ll notice that the HTML that comes up has nothing to do with the text on the page. The main frameset usually calls the other frames for content and doesn’t contain much relevant content on its own. At best, this hurts the importance placed on your target keywords (known as keyword prominence) and at worst, it prevents your real text from even being seen by the search engine. Either way, these effects are undesirable.
“I have to use frames, is there no hope?”
If you have to use frames, you will want to make sure that your main frameset page is optimized for your target keywords. Make sure it has a relevant title, meta keyword and meta description and that is contains at least a little text on the topic of the keyword.
Avoid frames at all cost
The disadvantages of using frames for your web site greatly outweigh any perceived advantage for easier navigation or any desired design effect. I would recommend that you avoid using frames at all costs.

The Small Screen SEO!
First of all, What is SEO? SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and is the art of making your pages efficient for search engine robots in order to get your site listed in the top of their results, preferably on the first page and within the top 10. We can easily achieve this if we know how the search engine is reading our sites, so we can further tweak our pages and make it to the top.

As I read the latest news online about what Google has done to many webmasters all over the world, I am left discussed towards some of the comments people are making against SEO Companies.
Please don’t be quick to blame seo companies. We are also loosing search engine ranking just as much as you are in areas that aren’t even related to seo.
Let’s take a look at SEO companies… Who created the need for seo companies? Search engines and webmasters did. The very same people who created a demand for seo companies are sometimes the same people who are trying to discredit them.
Here’s how I come to that conclusion: I keep reading that seo companies are trying to manipulate web pages, title’s, descriptions, key phrases etc in order to get a better ranking. Well why not?
In the off-line world of marketing, there are 1000’s of marketing teams all over the world trying to figure out what people want! Aren’t they trying to figure out what seo companies are trying to figure out in the end? how to get more sales?
Without going overboard with keywords and key phrases, creating a quality page is what we should all strive to do! Hopefully those who do saturate their pages with key words and key phrases get penalized and hopefully somehow in the future, search engines can tell them why they are being penalized. The unfortunate part is that since search engines don’t tell you why your site has been penalized, you’re left to blame someone, and like what most people do in that circumstance, you forget to blame yourself as well.
For the most part, getting a better ranking is typically done from having relevant information. So if we have relevant information, then what are we doing wrong? As SEO companies, we’re trying to give you better relevant information than anyone else.
There’s only one strategy I see online that gets me mad. When an seo company not only saturates their pages but they fail to create new and more content for their users. Instead they market what they have and never give their users more information for a better experience. A web site is never complete and should always plan on adding more visitor interaction.
A true SEO Company strives on giving their clients users - a more relevant experience by utilizing certain techniques.
Isn’t there always going to be a bad apple in the group? SEO Spammers - They are the companies you should be attacking. You can usually pick them out in a heart beat. Typically seo spammers are the companies that advertise something like this on their site…
“Get in the top 10 rank for any key phrase you want!” or “Top 10 search engine rankings guaranteed”!
Baloney. Don’t believe them for one second. If they could seriously get those Results all the time, then, wouldn’t everyone be in the top 10?
Why Then Are SEO’s Making A Fortune??? People want seo companies, the average owner doesn’t have the hours, the weeks, and possibly the years it takes to learn how to advertise online properly.
Hense why seo companies are born. It’s like ANY industry in the world, where there is a demand; there will always be a supplier for them. On that same note, where there’s money to be made, there will always be fakers, spammers, scammers and crooks.
What I Recommend: If you are going to search for an seo company. Don’t look at how many testimonials they may have or don’t look at how many promises they make. I suggest finding out who their clients are and contacting them directly to personally ask them questions about the seo company they chose and why!
In Conclusion: Please stop attacking ALL Seo companies since your not only attacking the companies future but your also attacking the future of the families at home who are surviving from them.

Firstly - what is SEO? Well - its short for Search Engine Optimization, and its the process of tuning up your web site so that it ranks better on search engines.
Why is that important? - well think of your web site as a book. It is sitting in the very large library called the Internet, and the only people that know about it are friends and current business acquaintances. They know the title of the site and where it sits on the shelf.
What you are trying to do through SEO is to get your site listed in the equivalent of the Internet catalog. That way people that are not intimately acquainted with who you are and what you sell will find you..
Not only that - you are also trying to get your site listed at the top of the index for a particular subject. There are millions of sites out there on every conceivable subject. If you sell widgets, then it wont do you very much good if your site is the 1543th listed under widgets. It would be like having a Yellow page advertisement where your business is listed in very small print at the back of the book!
There are two ways that you can get your site listed highly - the first is through paying for a listing - Google Adwords is one program that will help in that. These are the paid listings that you will see on the right side of the page when you do a Google search. The second method is through Search Engine Optimization, which will raise your rankings in the main listings.
What Search Engine Optimization does is make your web site more appetizing to the search engines, and make your site more important to them.

Can you SEO your own site? Yes of course you can. Follow those articles and Ill guarantee your rankings will improve, but my recommendation is to leave it to an expert. Doing it yourself is like trying to build a deck armed only with a screwdriver and a knife. You can get there, but its going to be a frustrating experience.
An SEO expert can save you an immense amount of time, trial and error and frustration, as they have the right tools for the job.
Oh, one more piece of advice. If you see an organization promising to get you a top ten listing for $10 a monthRUN! It cant be done ethically for that amount of money, and the search engines are just as likely to ban your site as to list it highly - you have been warned!!

SEO - What You Should Not Do
SEO is one of the economic ways to get your url listed on the top of free search engines. That is why SEO become so important. There are tons of guidance in SEO on the internet. But in the other hand, there are also misguidance in SEO. They always say to optimize, optimize and optimize your web page with keywords, without considering another factors like determining keywords or phrases keywords effectiveness, how many times you should repeating keywords on your page, etc. What I want to tell you is, that’s not enough. If you want to get effective search engine optimization, then avoid these mistakes:
1) Using wrong keywords.
What I mean with wrong keywords are using certain keywords or phases that have no effectiveness in value. Using these kind of keywords will bring you thousands of competitors (not visitors) and make your site stink.
2) Keyword density exceed than 5%.
It is true that to get the top on search engines, you need to repeat keywords several times on your page. But, too much repeating keywords on your page will make your site being penalties, since search engines assume it as spam. Just follow the thumb rule: keyword density may not exceed than 5%. This is the safe way to get your url listed on search engines. If you have any difficulties about this, simply, divide the keyword with the numbers of total words. Multiply the result with 100%. Now you got it.
3) Hidden texts.
Hidden text is text that has the same in color with web page’s background and this is a part of spam. Many web masters use hidden texts technique to increase keyword density. Indeed, these texts is unreadable by human visitors but, spiders can recognize it.
4) Too much images/flashes.
This is another mistakes of building web sites. Many web masters use images and animations in their web site to attract visitors. It does make their web sites dynamic but, search engines can not see even an image on their site. They don’t realize that search engines are blind. If inserting an image become so important, use it’s alt attribute so search engines robots can read the alternative texts. The alt attribute itself have to represent keywords you use.
5) Javascript
Like animation, Javascript does make dynamic web site but, search engines cannot recognize it well. So it is need to be avoided.

As more webmasters learn the advantages of search engine marketing, the search engines (SEs) will respond to discern which are the true sites deserving of top organic rankings. Despite what some Internet Gurus claim, ironically search engines will not always pick the best sites for their audience. This is because although Internet searchers are their target audience, their customers ironically are really Internet advertisers — that pay the bills.
Google, MSN and Yahoo are publicly traded companies with responsibilities to their shareholders to make a profit. In this regard it is in their interest to have a large pool of advertisers buying space on their digital properties. It really isn’t in the SE’s interest to have organic search engine optimization (SEO) elevating the fortunes of websites for free. The major SEs would rather eCommerce sites become advertisers in their grand scheme of things.
This constant struggle for top rankings online has caused a continuous and contentious classic battle between street smarts and book smarts online.
Because of the Internet’s growing popularity, business without borders, low barrier to entry, and gold rush hype the world’s smartest marketers are dueling with the worlds top techies over control of the Internet economy or “eCom-nomy” valued at close to a trillion dollars!
While many of the world’s top Internet marketers have advanced degrees, like Dr. Ralph Wilson, Dr. Ken Evoy, and Dr. Kevin Nunley (just to mention a few) from fields unrelated to technology, the majority are gutsy street-smart marketers. Contrast them with Googleplex’s best and brightest programming and data research “digerati”.
With billions of people in the future online all over the world the stakes couldn’t be higher. Search Engine Optimizers (SEOs) use inside information and downright common sense to reverse engineer the algorithms of the search engines.
While on the other hand the search engines employ the worlds top PhDs and top programmers to keep SEOs from topping out their results and providing adequate and helpful listings to Internet searchers. For instance it is obvious to SEO’s that Google is giving a good amount of preference to news, .gov and .org sites.
Despite the fact that these sites are authority sites at first glance, many government and nonprofit sites are not as up to date on their information as commercial sites. Have you ever tried to read some of the information on government sites about marketing and the Internet? These sites many times are just not as up to date in their information as one might need.

“Does Google Filter Sites for Good Grammar and Spelling?”
Recently a Grammar and English expert wrote an article in which he opined how he noticed top ranking sites consistently seem to have well written content as a feature in common. He elaborated that top ranking sites seem to have few spelling and grammatical errors. Then he suggested many SEO obsessions like PageRank(tm), and Keyword density just didn’t hold up as priorities in SEO.
I concur with him on his most salient points like Google doesn’t obviously pay much attention to PageRank(tm) anymore and Keyword density isn’t as much of a concern either. His most important espoused point is a truism in my humble opinion, in that good grammar and spelling is important to the professionalism of a site.
Misspelled words and bad grammar is a good indication that you don’t give attention to detail in your business. Many potential customers will also shy away from a site replete with spelling errors and terrible grammar. I don’t know if Google has a spelling and grammar filter, perhaps they should - and this writer has given them a good idea to go along with their current crop of Killer SEO Filters.
I certainly think, in the very least, you should run your written content through a spell and grammar checker, is if Google has this filter already in place. It is the least you can do for your site visitors.
Is Google Beginning to Devalue Directory Linking?
Directory linking has been a mainstay of link campaigns for a while. Especially since reciprocal linking is not as effective as it once was. This is why “one-way” linking from Internet directories has gained a lot in popularity over the last couple of years. Now Google is beginning to take away PageRank(tm) from DMOZ categories for Internet directories.
If you have a website that uses a lot of directory links for search engine optimization and you noticed your site has lost ground in the last few weeks — this may be why. I will look more into this development and get back to you on this latest algorithm change.
