SEO Book
One of the most popular seo books on the market today and for very good reason.
Although Aaron has only been around for a few years, it seems that he has an extremely gifted talent for search engine optimization.
The book reads very well, with a good flow of subjects in logical order which many seo authors seem to lack. A section on starting your own SEO consulting business is also included for those in the field.
Some of the other major sections in the book include…
Why search. Brief history of the web. General internet topics. Writing for the web. Directories and communities. Search engines. Link building.

Why Top Search Engine Placements Never Move?
#1 question when it comes to web advertising is how do I get top 10 search engine placements for the terms I wish to aquire?
Without getting into how to aquire #1 placements (Since there are virtually 100’s of articles explaining these techniques), let’s instead look into how companies who do end up aquiring them, never seem to loose them…
1st you must understand that search engines all over the world are battleing what seems like a never ending war to be able to provide the ultimate best results for a search.
So since this is true, search engines are consistently upgraded in order to improve their results. With upgrades come new content, with upgrades come loss of placements as well.
We all are consistently updating our sites to better fit search enignes results but at the same time, the top search engines are telling us to simply provide great relative content for your visitors. So why then do we ignore their wishes?
See what I’ve found through many up’s and down’s is that I had the ability to get the top placements all along. It was right under my nose the whole time.
Here it is… are you ready?…
Create your content for what you’re after and foget it! Move on, attack something else.
See, the reason why so many top companies never lose their precious placements is because they create very good content and then leave it up to search engines to find it, re-find and again re-find the same content.
Here’s what happens. The 1st time a search engine finds your content, they archive your information and keep going. Now that they have it archived, they come back time and time again to see if they can still provide viewers with that information.
If by chance you changed it in any way, search engines will ultimately have to re-archive the information again and start all over. This in turn is like “loosing interest” in your information at that time.
So a good rule of thumb is to leave your content the way it is in order to let search engines to have the opportunity to archive, double check and maybe tripple check your content relavance.
I guarantee you if you create it and forget it, create more and forget it and stick to that strategy, your bound to hit your target.
Keep up the good work!

Quicly Find Rankings with URL.com
Much like jux2, URL.com aggregates rankings from Google, Yahoo and MSN. However, with URL.com, it shows you where each page ranks in each search engine. So if you want to see how ‘package testing’ is ranking for a clint, one search on URL.com will show you the positions in Google, Yahoo and MSN. It’s quite slick. Checkout the screenshot:

How Can Search Engines Help You with Your Business?
What Are Search Engines?
Most of us often face the problem of searching the web. Nowadays, the global network is one of the most important sources of information there is, its main goal being to make information easily accessible. That’s where the main problem arises: how to find what you need among all those innumerable terabytes of data. The World Wide Web is overloaded with various stuff related to diverse interests and activities of human beings who inhabit the globe. How can you tell what a site is devoted to without visiting it? Besides, the number of resources grew as quickly as the Internet s own development, and many of them closely resembled each other (and still do). This situation necessitated finding a reliable (and at the same time fast) way to simplify the search process, otherwise there would be absolutely no point to the World Wide Web. So, development and deployment of the first search engines closely followed the birth of the World Wide Web. *
How It All Began
At the start, search engines developed quite rapidly. The “grandfather” of all modern search engines was Archie, launched in 1990, the creation of Alan Emtage, a student at McGill University, Montreal. Three years later, the University of Nevada System Computing Services deployed Veronica. These search engines created databases and collected information on the files existing in the global network. But they were soon overwhelmed by the fast growth of the net, and others stepped forward.
World Wide Web Wanderer was the first automated Internet robot, whereas ALIWEB, launched in Autumn of 1993, was the first rough model of a modern web directory that is filled up by site owners or editors. At about the same time, the first ’spiders’ appeared. These were: JumpStation, World Wide Web Worm, and Repository-Based Software Engineering** starting the new era of World Wide Web search. Google and Yahoo are two of their better-known descendants.
http://galaxy.com/info/history2.html.
Search Engines Today
Modern web searchers are divided into two main groups:
search engines and
directories.
Search engines automatically ‘crawl’ web pages (by following hyperlinks) and store copies of them in an index, so that they can generate a list of resources according to users’ requests (see How Search Engines Work , below). Directories are compiled by site owners or directory editors (in other words, humans) according to categories. In truth, most modern web search combine the two systems to produce their results.
How Search Engines Work
All search engines consist of three main parts:
the spider (or worm);
the index; and
the search algorithm.
The first of these, the spider (or worm), continuously crawls web space, following links that lead both to within the limits of a website and to completely different websites. A spider reads all pages content and passes the data to the index.
The Index is the second part of a search engine. It is a storage area for spidered web pages and can be of a huge magnitude (Google s index, for example is said to consist of three billion pages).
The third part of a search engine system is the most sophisticated. It is the search algorithm, a very complicated mechanism that sorts an immense database within a few seconds and produces the results list. Looking like a web page (or, most often, lots of pages), it contains links to resources that match users’ queries (i.e., relevant resources). The most relevant ones (as the search engine sees it) are nearer the top of the list. They are the ones most likely to be clicked by the user of the search engine. A site owner should therefore take heed of the site’s relevancy to the keywords it is expected will be used to find it.
http://www.searchenginewatch.com/webmasters/article.php/2168031
A Relevancy calculation algorithm is unique for every search engine, and is a trade secret, kept hidden from the public. However, there are some common principles, which will be discussed in the following paragraph.
http://www.searchenginewatch.com/webmasters/article.php/2167961
What to Do to Have Your Web Site Found through Search Engines
There are some simple rules to make your resource relevant enough to be ranked in the top 10 by the majority of search engines.
Rule 1: Work on the body copy
A search engine determines the topic of your site judging by the textual information (or content) of every page. Of course, it cannot comprehend the content the way humans do, but this is not critical. It is much more important to include keywords, which are found and compared with users’ queries by the programme. The more often you use targeted keywords, the better your page will be ranked when a search on those keywords is made.
You can increase the relevancy of your targeted keywords still more if you include them in the HTML title of your page ( tag), in subheaders (- tags), in hyperlinks ( tag), or just emphasize them with bold font ( or tags). Meta tags and were introduced specifically to help search engines. Unfortunately, they are rapidly losing their significance because it is too easy to abuse them. Webmasters should therefore concentrate mainly on body copy, which is the part of textual content placed between the and the tags.
One should take into account the facts that the search engines’ algorithms are constantly improving and that index databases are updated. When you have aquired the desired position in the listings, do not rest on your laurels. Site optimisation should become a permanent job for all site owners who regard web presence as an important part of their business.
http://searchenginewatch.com/webmasters/article.php/2168021
Rule 2: Build links to your site
As we have mentioned before, a spider scans the web following the links placed by site owners onto their pages in order to inform their visitors of where to find something that might be of interest. So, the greater the number of website owners agreeing to list your site, the smaller the time that will pass before all existing search engines will find out about you. What’s more, those pages that are linked from multiple sites are considered by crawlers as more important. Google (http://www.google.com/) implements this concept via a so called Page Rank; other engines analyse your site’s popularity in different ways. Remember that a link from a site that itself ranks well, is much more valuable than just any link. Also note that content relevancy of the site linking to you further increases the importance of the link.
Rule 3: Play fair
Do not get involved in unfair games with search engines. If you feel that your method is obviously deceptive, do not use it. Here are just some of widespread methods used by unscrupulous webmasters.
Spam
Let’s assume that the site owner wishes to make a page very relevant to a certain key phrase. The most obvious course to take is to include this phrase into a page copy as many times as possible. When it starts looking unnatural (that is, the keyword density value becomes excessive), it will be regarded as a kind of spam (so-called keyword damping). This page will look odd both for human visitors and for search engines. Consequently, any WWW user will hardly wish to return to this page after having visited it just once, and search engines will be likely to penalise spam by reducing the page’s ranking.
Using colours to hide multiple keywords, as a kind of spam
Some web masters in their vain hope to deceive search engines go a step further. They make the part of body copy, which is intended only for search engines, invisible (that is, of a colour identical or just a shade different from the background color), or tiny enough to be indistinguishable (i.e., 1 or 2 pixels high). Modern search engines have become smart enough to detect such tricks, so we wouldn’t advise you to use these methods. You might even win for a short time, but lose afterwards, because some search engines penalise spammers by excluding their web sites from their databases.
Link farms
Many site owners unite in so called link farms in order to artificially increase the link popularity value. These are nothing but networks where everyone links to everyone else, concentrating on the quantity of links and disregarding their quality. Their efficiency is very low. First, a page can deliver just a small part of its value to every page it links to within the farm. If it contains too many links, this part will be worthless. Second, a page that contains links, just links, and nothing else but links, cannot be very authoritative for quite natural reasons. Besides, modern search engines analyse the link quality in terms of web site relevancy, ranking the link highly if it leads to a site devoted to similar issues. So, when you are looking for link exchange partners, choose those whose business is similar to yours. The sites of your partners, or web portals devoted to your business issues, are ideal for this.
Cloaking
This is a widespread technology that aims to deceive search engines . The point is, all known spidering robots recognised by their IP addresses or host names are redirected to a page that is specially polished to meet search engines’ requirements, but is unreadable to a human being. In order to detect cloakers, spiders often come from fake IP addresses and under fictitious names. Also, users’ feedback is collected, and if people too often find that a page’s real content doesn’t match its declared description, the page is revised by search engine owners staff and runs the risk of being penalised.
Rule 4: Your site must be interesting
Increasing the number of pages included on your site, and the quality of information you place on those pages, increases the probability of getting good links to your pages. Interesting articles, and actual news concerning your business, will attract visitors’ attention, and your site will be well-known and spoken of. If you gain a good reputation on the Internet, your commercial success will be almost certain, and the site will promote itself.
Good site structure is also very important. If your site is created with the basic usability requirements in mind, and is categorised well, the users will enjoy visiting it. Every page should be easily accessed from the home page, and plain text links are preferred. Thus, a search engine robot will experience no difficulties whilst spidering your site content, following the links that lead from one page to another.
As you can see, merely having a website or running a company does not guarantee success. The demands of promotion, catering for conditions of your web site or brand recognition, popularity and attracting still more clients must be of prime importance.
We have introduced you to the majority of tools used for the promotion of your business on the Internet. These tools apply the technologies that facilitate searching for desired resources. Evidently, website owners can be discouraged by the multiplicity of web searching algorithms as this demands search engine optimisation and comprehensive spadework. So if you don t think you can cope with this job, it is probably worth seeking a qualified Internet promoter or an Internet promotion company in order to gain good results at affordable costs. You will surely stand high in directories and search engines results and therefore increase traffic and the number of potential clients your business has access to.

Free Online SEO Tools
For anyone wanting to do a bit of their own Search Engine Optimisation, there is an abundance of free online SEO tools available on the internet. Most of them provide some pretty impressive statistics and information to help you optimise your website, analyse search engine positions, research your competitors, plus much more!
There are two ways these free online SEO tools can be used:
(1) For those who are new to the area of search engine optimisation, these tools provide excellent insight on how a website is performing and ranking. They can quickly highlight issues and trends with their current website and provide a good insight as to where optimisation work is necessary.
(2) For the more experienced search engine optimisers amongst us, these tools will act as a complement to the more specialised SEO tools, like WebPosition Gold or SpyderOpts. They can even be used to supplement an SEO s internal knowledge base and experience.
Here is a selection of some choice tools for both the novice and the experienced search engine optimisers:
Keyword Research Tool
http://www.webmaster-toolkit.com/keyword-research-tool.shtml
This helps to research appropriate words and phrases to include in your webpage’s body text to aid promotion. It s simple and to use and requires the user to enter the sort of word of phrase you wish to be found under, the tool will then suggest some additional words and phrases you can think about using. One of the great things about this tool is that it gives you the option to select from a range of top search engines, e.g. Google, Yahoo, MSN, Teoma, etc.
Keyword Analyser Tool
http://www.webmaster-toolkit.com/keyword-analysis-tool.shtml
This tool reads the body of the page you specify and gives a report on what words are used, and how many times they are used.
This is a valuable tool as most engines will rank your site depending on your keyword density (which typically ranges between 3% and 9%).
Search Engine Position Checker Tool
http://www.webmaster-toolkit.com/search-engine-position-checker.shtml
This tool checks whether your website appears in the first fifty results in major search engines for your chosen keyword or phrase.
If the URL is present, it will output what position it occupies. As an additional feature, the tool also informs you if any other URLs from your domain appear in the search results.
Link Popularity Tool
http://www.instantposition.com/link_popularity_check.cfm
This tool measures the total number of links or “votes” that a search engine has found for your website.
This is a pretty cool tool because as well as tabulated data it also produces a nice graph of the resulting data. One final key element of this tool is its ability to compare your website to your competitors to help you with your overall marketing strategy.
Meta Tag Generator
http://www.webmaster-toolkit.com/meta-tag-generator.shtml
This automatically generates a Meta Keyword tag by reading the page you specify, removing common words from it, and picking the most used words on the page. Extra weight is given to words in a heading tag ( etc.)
Search Term Suggestion Tool
http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/
Displays how many times a certain keyword was searched for at Overture.com. Shows all related searches for the entered keyword. A good measure to use in determining frequency of search among related keyword phrases
Search Engine Optimisation Tool
http://www.instantposition.com/seo_doctor.cfm
A very impressive tool that tests the performance of a web site, by analysing a page on the important elements of web page creation, such as its title and content. It then scores the page against given criteria for the top search engines, followed by some valuable SEO advice to improve overall ranking. The report produced is well laid out and easy to follow for anyone doing their own optimisation.
A freebie tool that works better than many costly SEO tools I know!
The area of online SEO tools is an exciting area of growth as SEO developers come up with more and more tools to represent website positions on the internet. No doubt we will be revisiting this area again

Google Proof Your Site with Links
Let me try reading your mind. You’re thinking, “What? Google proof my site with links? I thought links helped Google rank my pages higher?”
And you’re absolutely right. They do.
But links do something else. They give you a backup source of traffic for those days, weeks, or months when Google spasms out. Something content alone can’t do.
So while content and on-page optimization count, to me links are what separates the men from the boys.
Now links come in three flavors:
Directory Links
Reciprocal Links
One Way Links
Let’s briefly cover each.
====> Directory Links
Unlike some, I’m not especially enamoured with directory links. For me their role has been to serve as the initial link(s) for a site so Google can find it. Other than that I find them more trouble than they’re worth. Unless they’re specifically targeted to your niche.
Still if you gotta have some let’s round up the usual free or “for fee” suspects:
Simply pony up some cash for express review and you can get yourself decent directory links in no time.
====> Reciprocal Links
Reciprocal links cost you nothing but time. They’re pretty much forever. And if your site is link worthy, that is has decent content and pagerank (PR), you should have no trouble getting at least a third of those you approach to swap links with you.
Even better each link back to your site has the potential to deliver up a heapin helpin of
PR
Traffic
Link reputation (from the link text)
Since they’re there for the asking, make sure you’re spending a couple hours a week soliciting link trades.
====> One Way Links
Some feel one way links carry more ranking firepower. I’m not so sure. But there are many ways to get one way links. My two favorites? Articles and rented links.
Article Links
I know every one and his dead dog touts article marketing as a way to gain exposure, links and presumably traffic. But they really do work. Maybe not overnight. But if you hang in there you’ll find you can build your online reputation and create a steady stream of traffic to your site too.
Yet their real fire power is unleashed if they appear in ezines read by your prospects.
Also when I’m on the prowl for link partners, I keep my eyes open for anything that would suggest the site posts guest articles. When I find one, I fire off the link swap request and submit an article. Hey, a two-fer!
Now if you don’t have the skill or inclination to write articles you can have them ghost written. Or if you want a turn key solution complete with a guarantee of 20 inbound links, you can have the articles written and promoted for you by www.promotewitharticles.com.
Rented Links
Notice the choice of terms. I prefer to look at links I pay for, ostensibly as “advertising” (wink wink), as rented links. Rented since they aren’t forever unless you choose them to be a permanent part of your marketing plan.
Not only that, they are a great way to jumpstart the PR of a newer site. Making it infinitely easier to land reciprocal links. Which once accomplished frees you to jettison the rented ones!
Two ways you can go. You can use a link broker:
Somewhat safer in that you have someone else besides the webmaster to look to if something goes awry.
Yet if you’re more adventuresome and willing to dig a bit you may discover some very cost effective text links.
For example this week in just 10 minutes I found a PR 5 site selling text link advertising for $15 a month. I jumped on that like a duck on a wounded June bug. Also found a site with PR 7 links for just $75 a month. Again, I didn’t think twice about signing up for that bargain either.
Just remember when it comes to buying links “you pays your money you takes your chance”. One friend confided he had spent $300/month on links and the promised PR 7 never materialized once PR updated. I invested less but from what I can see also got squat in the PR department too with a recent rental for a newer site.
Still when it works out rented links can have an almost magical affect on your rankings.
Anyway there you go. Three ways to get links that when coupled with optimized content can make your site an unstoppable traffic magnet. While making it Google proof to boot.

To Get Listed in Yahoo!
Getting listed in Yahoo! (The Very Top Search Engine/Index) is a lot like getting a date with the most beautiful girl in high school - often all you have to do is ask PROPERLY. I can make that statement because I have NEVER submitted a site to Yahoo! that wasn’t listed. I’ve read a lot about how difficult it is getting listed, and how frustrating it is - so maybe I am just very lucky. Then again, if you follow the same steps that have ALWAYS worked for me, there is no reason to believe that they won’t work for you too. So I wanted to share with you in four short steps how to get listed.
The first step is ensuring your site is READY. The staff at Yahoo! is very busy. A person has to physically look over your site and decide if it’s appropriate for the category submitted and if it’s worth listing. They get thousands of submissions to review. So begin by putting yourself in the reviewer’s shoes; if you would be unimpressed by reviewing your site, then the reviewer probably will be too. If that’s the case, fix the problems with your site before submitting it. The reviewers are humans - with all the quirks that humans are subject to, and you must account for that.
Site readiness means two major thing to me: (1) It contains sufficient content worth listing and (2) It is complete enough that it contains absolutely no dead links, and it can be easily navigated. Every site should be under constant update - so that’s not a real problem - just leave off leave the unnecessary “under construction” gifs.
Most people who visit the internet are looking for free information on some topic - furnish this information and your site fills a need and is therefore worth listing. My main site is a perfect example of this. It contains articles on internet marketing by a variety of diverse, experienced authors. A surfer gets a lot of very useful CONTENT from visiting and therefore my site is “worth” listing. I am constantly adding to this storehouse, so it is never really complete, but it was ready for listing when first submitted. Every link led to some real resource, and not a disappointing “file not found.”
After you know that your site is ready, step two is simply submitting it properly. Using the Yahoo! search box, find sites similar to yours. Click on the “suggest a site” icon and suggest your site in the same category. Fill in all of the fields completely and accurately. You’re not going to fool the reviewer and if you submit to the wrong category you annoy a very busy reviewer - and guarantee that you won’t be listed.
Step three is probably the hardest - you wait. While some search engines list your site within days, Yahoo! may take months. So after you know that you have properly submitted your content rich, submission ready site in the proper categories, you display a little patience.
But not too much patience; step 4 is resubmitting. If your site isn’t listed in about 6 weeks, resubmit. Keep resubmitting until it is listed! That’s partly how I can honestly say that I have never submitted a site that wasn’t listed - I am very, very persistent. In marketing, whether on or offline, persistence is the key. Sort of like asking that pretty girl out again - eventually she would probably say “why not.” While my main site at http://www.williecrawford.com was listed the very first time it was submitted, and shows up under “INTERNET MARKETING 101″ (with quotation marks) as the first listing, I have client sites listed in Yahoo that I did have to submit several times - but they all got listed.
It all boils down to realizing that of all the search engines and indexes, Yahoo! generates the most hits. So it’s definitely worth the effort! You will not get listed if you don’t submit your site, and you probably won’t get listed if you don’t submit properly. Do it right the first time and profit from this most cherished of listings.

What Should A Professional SEO Service Consist Of?
There are many SEO firms on the internet offering their SEO services and for potential customers it is very often hard to make a decision on which one to choose especially if they have no any knowledge about SEO. This comprehensive article is aimed to guide through the basics of a full professional SEO service in which potential clients are interested to purchase. First of all, there are many aspects which should be considered prior making a final decision. There are eight phases we will go through and explain the importance as well as the benefits of each of them.
Link Exchange? Article Exchange!
There has been a tendency to ignore links between search engines. Of course, this is based on the fact that more and more webmasters establish links between their sites, artificially increasing the “link popularity”. Nevertheless, the search algorithms are based “weight” references, i.e. its relevance theme invoking site.

Five tips to improve your chances with Google et al.
“Dear David: I just created a website on baby toy safety. What should I do to make sure gazillions of people find me through the search engines?”
I can’t promise you gazillions, but there are a few things you should do to make it easy for search engines to find you. I assume you have already decided to submit your site to the major search engines and directories. I assume that you will develop some sort of linking strategy (hopefully a better strategy than most websites use today). I also assume you will have picked key search terms for all the pages on your website.
Beyond that, here are my top five tips for making your website easy for those “gazillions” to find it.
1. A picture might be worth a thousand words, but search engines don’t read pictures. Make sure your key search terms are written out in text, not part of a graphic title you hire somebody to prepare for you. That also means you should not just show pictures of toys, but also write out the names, and possibly a keyword description with the title.
2. Have several pages of articles related to your website’s topic. Use a different keyword search term for each article. For instance, one article might use frequently the term “safe toys for babies”, while another might use the term “baby safety”.
3. What’s the URL of your website? Your name won’t help you there. Your key search term will. In this instance, I might pick www.baby-toy-safety.com, for example (if that is one of your top keyword phrases). Hire somebody who knows what he is doing to develop the right keyword strategy for you BEFORE you choose your domain name.
4. What’s the title of your page? I don’t know how many times I see titles such as “Article” or “Contact us”. Don’t expect the search engine robots to get all excited about that term. And don’t expect anybody to search for that term, either. Much better to title your page “Free article on safe toys for babies” or “Contact the *Baby Toy Expert* today”. By the way, this is the single most important place to include your keyword phrases.
5. What about that navigation menu that appears on every single page of your website? Does it say “Contact the baby toy expert?” Or “about the baby toy expert”. Or links about baby toys?” Need I say more?
If your website is about life insurance, you have little hope of hitting the front pages of any search engine. “Life insurance” is such a competitive search engine marketplace. Unless, of course, people are searching for a very specific and rare niche. Even then, I suspect you will need much more than these five tips.
In fact, there are dozens, if not hundreds of things you can do to win the search engine race. These top five search engine optimization tips are a great start, whatever your website is about.

See No Google, Hear No Google, Speak No Google
I woke up last night in a cold sweat. Seriously - I’m not joking! It was three in the morning and I’d just had a nightmare that is enough to scare any website owner. Google didn’t exist.
That’s right - I dreamt of a World Wide Web without the Googlopoly. And let me tell you - it was a scary place.
Well the thing is - at first I thought it was frightening - but as the nightmare went on it started feeling less scary as I began to realise that I no longer had to check my rankings every day, worry about how my website was built from a ‘Google perspective’ and constantly battle over positions with my online competitors. And this got me to thinking..
What Would The World Be Like If Google Didn’t Exist?
Exactly the same really. Okay - the world Wide Web would be different, but would it really be so bad? I think, that as website owners, we should behave as if Google doesn’t exist. It is only by doing this that we can free ourselves from some of the chains that it has on us. Just take a step back a moment and think of the number of times you’ve visited Google purely to see where in the rankings your own site is listed. Quite a few times right? What about all those hours your spent researching how Google works and what changes you could make to your website to effect a positive effect on your ranking.. Sound familiar?
Are You A Killer Google Zombie?
So instead of all this wasted Google-Gazing - what would your website be like now if you had spent that time creating excellent new content? Or what if you had spent that time finding key partners in your industry and launching affiliate arrangements with them? Or what about if you sat down and really improved your homepage so that your conversion rate from visitors into sales increased two-fold? Don’t you see? Your Google-tinted glasses are tainting your entire view of how to be successful on the web. Take off your GoogleSpecs - I urge you to smash them right now. From this moment onwards promise me that you will take steps to ignore the fact that Google exists and look for other ways of growing your website’s profile and improving its capacity to make you money. Don’t be a Killer Google Zombie!
“Michael - You Ignore Google At Your Peril!”
What? Wise up! I bet you there are thousands if not millions of hours wasted every single year by people Google-gazing, researching how it works, trying to beat the system, discussing it in online forums, trying to jump one position higher or pandering to the latest Google dance. Imagine how much better the web would be right now if these millions of hours had been spent on making websites more effective, more user-friendly, more informative, more enjoyable and more fun! The next time you find yourself being drawn into the Google-gazing trap just take a step back and think about how you could use the time to actually improve your website for those pink squishy things that actually buy from you - people!

Sub Domains - An Inexpensive Solution to Grow Traffic
Read this brief article that reflects what we learned about subdomains and their important role in effective internet marketing.
A sub-domain is a section of your main web site, set up and recognized as it’s own cyber real estate. There is usually no cost or very low cost to set up multiple subdomains on your hosting account. Sub-domains are folders located within a directory of your main site and carry a pre name to your existing domain.
Example ..
http://www.masteradvertising.com is our main domain name.
But we use many sub domain names for our research areas, script testing and growing development areas.
Such as ..
http://traffic.masteradvertising.com
(for our traffic exchange)
http://mail.masteradvertising.com
(for our members free mail service)
http://team.masteradvertising.com
(for our admin team members) and so on …
To best utilize your subdomains, it is important that they all remain o n the same subject area or theme. Our site pertains to online advertising. It would not benefit us to launch a pet store under pets.masteradvertising.com.
Each subdomain can serve as another gateway into your main establishment, for visitors, testing marketing strategies, and search engines too!
Since creating content for a website takes time, often webmasters simply modify the existing text of the main site and reuse it on the subdomain site. It is important that the content is not exactly the same and that the subdomain does not simply redirect to the main site. Otherwise, search engines may not index them and you may even may even get tossed from the engines database.
Subdomain websites can be submitted to the search engines just like your main site. If your website is doing alright in the search engines, then imagine having five more websites out there for the spiders to find. Five more listings means that web surfers have five times as many ways to find yournetwork of websites.
More and more search engine algorithms take into consideration the number and ranking of sites that link to you. By linking your sub-domains to your main site and to each other, the ranking of all of your sites is improved.
Your subdomains provide a great area for testing banner exchanges and other advertising resource mediums, without cluttering up the main site. Each sub domain will carry it’s own traffic statistics, and campaigns can be tracked efficiently by ones self with server stats or other preferred tracking methods.
Get creative and branch your services and products out between your subdomains yet centering them around and connected via your main site. It will increase your keyword density and rankings per sub domain and most consumers are more comfortable working with a specialized area then a o ne-stop shop.

In October 2002, the Yahoo! portal changed the way it delivers search results. In the past, the most prominent results were exclusively culled from websites listed in the Yahoo directory itself. Since October, sites listed in the Yahoo directory no longer enjoy this privileged status.
The Google search engine now drives the primary search results on Yahoo. While this is certainly an improvement for users of Yahoo search, it’s a disaster for many businesses that counted on their Yahoo listing to deliver substantial traffic.
This change has also led many site owners to question the value of a listing in the Yahoo directory. In this article, I will outline the pros and cons of maintaining, or paying for, a Yahoo listing. In the process, I will delve into more details of the recent changes.
Argument #1: Yahoo Listings Mean Link Popularity
Pro: Even if the Yahoo listing itself delivers little or no traffic, other search engines will rank your website higher if it’s listed in Yahoo. Because Yahoo is so important, a link from Yahoo counts more than a regular link. Thanks to its higher “PageRank,” Yahoo means even more to Google.
Con: Yahoo listings do not deliver nearly as significant a contribution in this area as you might think. You can verify this by doing a “backward links” search on Google for any Yahoo-listed website. The most important links are listed first, and the Yahoo listing is rarely even on the first page of links for top ranked sites on Google.
Argument #2: Listed Sites Look Better In The Search Results
Pro: Websites with a Yahoo listing show up in the combined Yahoo/Google results with their title, description, and category from the Yahoo directory. This may boost the response when the site appears in the search results. This applies when the URL listed in the results is the same as the URL in the Yahoo listing.
Con: Results listed with Yahoo information include a link to the site’s category, which may prompt surfers to pass over your listing and go to the category. Sites without Yahoo listings have the more inviting “search within this site” link, which leads to more results exclusively from your site.
So, Is A Yahoo Listing Worth It?
If you have a non-commercial site and can get listed for free, of course! If you’re not one of the lucky few, though, you have to evaluate whether it’s worth $299 a year for what amounts to a better than average incoming link. Everyone must make their own decision. If $299 is small compared to your total marketing budget, it may be easier to just continue paying. My own listing expires in March, and I don’t intend to renew it.
How Can You Profit From The Changes At Yahoo?
The obvious answer is that you must take steps to improve your own position in Google’s search results. Google’s rankings are made up of many factors, but the dominant factor is “PageRank,” which is based on the number and quality of incoming links from other websites.
Therefore, the first step in improving your position on the Google search engine (and now Yahoo) is to improve your site’s link popularity. This takes time, and trying to take shortcuts can get you into real trouble - Google doesn’t like “link farms,” or any program designed to artificially boost your link popularity.

Finding Quality Link Partners Through Google
Since only links from quality sites will count for much with Google, let’s take a quick look at how you can find these sites. Start by targeting the sites that link to existing top-ranked sites. You can do a backward links search for any site by typing “link:http://www.domain.com” in the Google search engine.
An even faster method is to use the Google toolbar (http://toolbar.google.com/), which requires Internet Explorer 5 or greater, running on Windows. With the toolbar’s advanced features enabled, you can conduct a “backward links” search from the “Page Info” menu for any site you visit.
Since Google lists these results in descending order by “PageRank,” you can quickly determine the best places to get links by doing backward links searches on the top 10-20 sites for your desired search terms, and seeking links from the top 10-20 places that link to them.
Links Are Not Enough: Optimizing For Google
While “PageRank” is the dominant factor in Google’s algorithm, it’s not the only factor, and you still need to optimize your web pages. This can be a complicated topic, but the most important factors are:
Keywords in the title of the page
Keywords in headings on the page (H1 or H2 tags), especially the first heading.
Keywords in the body text of the page, particularly the first paragraph.
Don’t Complain, Act!
By some estimates, Google now controls 2/3rds of the searches conducted on the Internet in a given day. Not only is Google.com extremely popular in its own right, but Google also controls the search results on popular portals like AOL and Iwon.com - not to mention Yahoo.
A lot of website owners are complaining bitterly about this change. All the more reason for you to take action now, while so many of your competitors are busy licking their wounds. With a little planning and effort, you could be in a dominant position on Google before they even get started.
I wish you success…

Getting Ahead of the Competition With Competitor Analysis
Getting Ahead of the Competition With Competitor Analysis
Competitor Analysis when applied to a web page means that you can establish how much to optimize a page in order to compete against the top 11 competitors for the keywords that have been targeted. It also means not wasting time overly optimizing pages that don’t need to be and avoiding an over optimization penalty from a search engine that can result in a worsening, not an improvement in ranking.

Google Page Rank Is Dead - Or Is It?
For a long time now, marketing gurus all over the world have been talking about google page ranking. Page ranking is simply Google’s way of measuring your pages accordingly.
But there is a problem…
More and more we tend to see NO consistency with page ranking at all. Please don’t confuse the difference between “page ranking” & “search engine ranking”. The two are completely different.
With this method of measurement, we could quickly see how much or how little a person has put into promoting their website. A high rank of 6,7,8,9,10 is sometimes held as something honerable to have for your site but does it really matter?
In some aspects it does and in some it doesn’t.
As I mentioned above, page ranking has nothing to do with your search engine success. It (did) have everthing to do with “importance”. The only problem is (like so many marketing ventures online), this measurement method is dying off with the rest of them. People online are very intuitive about these sort of things and tend to over saturate ways to beat them and/or improve on them quickly.
People all over the world are even still wondering how to increase their page rank. Now why would they do this???
Simple, it’s all about prestige. Eventhough marketing experts like myself weigh absolutely no importance on page ranking anymore, there are still literally 1000’s of business people out there that consider a high rank a good thing.
So how do you benefit from increasing your rank?
You will attract better quality websites to yours
People will think your website has lasting power
People will want to mimic what you do
People will even think highly of you
Even now, many browsing people look for high ranking websites to exchange links with.
So does trying to increase your website page ranking help you? Not really. What you ultimately want to do is promote your website as much as you can in as many “RELATED _ RELATED” places that you can and let search engines do their own thing.
Playing into search engines hands won’t help your company. Building a great web marketing foundation will attract exactly what you’ve been after….. MORE EXPOSURE!
Please take this seriously and always be on the look-out for other ways to promote your business, let Google’s page rank go and look at the future beyond PR ratings.
Hope this article helps you out!

How To Really SEO Your Site
Search engine optimization is one of most popular online marketing tool for any website. With more websites coming online every day the competition gets larger, so you have to make sure you can out SEO them before they out do you. In this article I will tell how to increase your ranking and how to out do your competition.
Search engines change their algorithms often and it’s hard to keep up for anyone, so if you don’t know much about SEO don’t worry, I will get you up to speed. First make sure YOUR site is robot FRIENDLY by using HTML instead of flash and use more text than images or flash.
Page size can help you rank better in search engines, by keeping your page size low you will help robot(s) get more out of your web page. You should Keep it under 100k, but it’s best to keep it around 25k or lower. Content is a key because search engines like Google love theme sites. Build three pages of content per week with at least 200 words.
One thing that every one that owns a site should have heard about by now is link popularity. Link building is very important because not only will search engines find your site faster, but it will help you rank higher for the keywords you used in the links. Try to trade links with websites which have high Google PageRank of at least 4, the more the better, but don’t trade links just for PageRank, look at Traffic more. Below is a link to a link exchange that will help you build you link popularity and traffic.
Density and position play a big part in your ranking for your keywords. You should use your keyword once in the title, once in the description meta tag, once the in the heading, once the in the URL, once in bold text. Try to get a density between 5% and 20% and you should do good.
Submit your home page and maybe a few other pages in your site to the search engines, than wait for them to come to your web site. The waiting part is the harder part after you submit to the search engine. You can see the main search engines that you should submit to below.
Google - http://www.google.com/addurl.html
Yahoo - http://submit.search.yahoo.com/free/request
Teoma/Ask Jeeves - You will need to email Teoma to get in at this time.
Meta tags are not that important as they once were, but some search still consider them and this could help you rank higher in some search engines. Use the keyword meta tag and description meta tag, the rest don’t do nothing nor help!
After the robots start coming to your site watch the logs (If you have logs) very closely and keep up with what pages they index and how often they come. Also make sure robots are crawling the full site and not just some pages.

What is The Google Sandbox Effect?
In the age of fair competition you may find it hard to believe that a search engine may hinder the appearance of a new website. This is what is currently believed to be happening on more web servers today. Some programmers have viewed Google as uncomfortable to rank newer websites until they have proven their viability to exist for more than a period of x months. Thus the term Sandbox Effect applies to the idea that all new websites have their ratings placed in a holding tank until such time is deemed appropriate before a ranking can commence.
However the website is not hindered as much as the links that are reciprocated from other users. Newer links that are created are put on a probationary status until again they pickup in rank from other matured sites or placed directly by an ad campaign. The idea behind the hindrance is to prevent a fast ranking to occur on a new website. The usual holding period seems to be between 90 and 120 days before a site would start obtaining rank from reciprocal or back linking.
Some advice has been given to have companies you are going to reciprocate back add your link first to the website. This may help grandfather your site in, thus reducing the waiting time associated with new websites. People have noticed a 0 page rank when first signing up and receiving a bolstering 7 page ranking after 4 months. Why the delay? The fact is, that if people realized how easy it would be to get a high ranking, would that take away the credibility of the engine. It depends on whom you ask, but it does seem to be happening frequently to newer subscribers. Do not discontinue back linking, your rank will eventually appear.

Anchor Text Optimization
“Anchor text can significantly improve your page relevance. Optimized Anchor text can boost your site ranking and targeted search engine traffic.”
If you have done some serious reading about your website’s optimization, you probably would have come across the reference to the phrase optimization of anchor text . This article discusses the definition and importance of anchor text and how you can use this powerful website optimization feature to get high ranking in search engines.
What is Anchor Text?
Anchor text is the visible hyperlinked text on the page. Let’s take this example:
Please examine our “SEO Case Studies” for validation to evaluate our “Search Engine Optimization” capabilities.
Here the words SEO Case Studies and Search Engine Optimization are hyper linked to the hidden URLs http://www.seorank.com/seo-casestudies.htm and http://www.seorank.com respectively. The words within the visible links, SEO Case studies and Search Engine Optimization , are called the anchor text.
In a normally built site, anchor text is usually used to indicate the subject matter of the page that it links to. For example, the text SEO case studies indicates to visitors that they can expect to see content about case studies pertaining to SEO if they visit the link. This pattern of usage has been applied in search engine algorithms to enhance the relevance of the target or the landing page URL for the keywords appearing within the anchor text.
Anchor Text Enhances the Relevance of the Target Page
Please note that the keywords in anchor text enhance the relevance of the target page pertaining to the keywords used. While the relevance of the page containing the anchor text is also enhanced to some degree (because of relevant keywords appearing on that page), the real gainer is the target page URL. Use this knowledge to build the relevance of each page of your site, through optimized anchor text containing important keywords, relevant to the theme of such pages, from other pages of your site.
Search Engine Algorithms like Anchor Text.
The inclusion of important keywords in the anchor text can make a big difference in the final ranking of your site pages. All search engines that matter, give significant weight to the anchor text on your pages. In fact Google even has a special operator: allinanchor:keyword , which picks up text only from within the anchor text of indexed pages. This further implies that Google s algorithm is configured to index anchor text as separate queryable data, thereby making it evident, that Google considers it an important pointer to page relevance. Our internal research leads us to believe that weight given to anchor text has been raised recently in the Google algorithm. With these changes, it is possible to enhance your website s ranking by using the right keywords in anchor text.
It has also been studied that anchor text, whether from external, or internal pages, is important. It should therefore be ensured that significant attention is given to the inclusion of important keywords in your anchor text.
How to Optimize Anchor Text Within Your Site
Anchor text optimization can be deployed throughout your site to enhance the relevance of most of the web pages based on individual page content. You would be surprised, how easy it is, to find suitable instances of hyperlinking structures to make use of optimized anchor text. When linking to internal pages, it is better to hyperlink relevant keywords instead of linking unrelated common words. A common lapse is the hyperlinking of the common words like “here” instead of content related keywordsFor example in the sentence:
“Read all about Anchor Text here”, the tendency is to link “here” to the anchor text content URL whereas the best way is to link ” Anchor Text “.
This is important because you can leverage the hyperlinking of important keyword phrases instead of hyperlinking unrelated text wherever possible. For delivering relevant results, robots are hungry for anchor text so it is always a great idea to hyperlink important keywords to help search engines deliver relevance. Always restructure sentences if keywords don t fit in anchor text.
Using Keywords in Natural Text to Create Anchor Text
You can also locate (or insert) important keyword phrases in your page s natural text and link it to relevant target pages of your site. Consider the paragraph below. Notice how the highly relevant keywords within quotes can be converted into powerful anchor text. Each keyword phrase links to an important relevant section of the same site:
“Search Engine Optimization” is an important part of any “search engine marketing” initiative. Some people believe that submitting the site to search engines alone is sufficient in getting “top-10 ranking”. This is not true. “Search engine submission” only announces your site s existence to search engines. To get a good “search engine ranking”, it is important that you carry out “Title tag optimization”, “Meta tags optimization” and “anchor text optimization” of your website amongst other “SEO techniques”.
While the above example seems like overkill, this is just to illustrate how you can accommodate your important keyword phrases by carefully rewording the text of your web pages. If you feel that the standard blue underlined hyperlinks appear ugly on your website, then you can re-format its HTML markup code to change color of the text and get rid of the underline without losing the power of the anchor text.
Optimizing Anchor Text of External Links
Keywords within the anchor text are equally useful from links pointing to your website. If you are pursuing or considering a link building campaign, put some serious thought in writing multiple options of the title and description of the link pointing to your website.
The title which is usually used as the hyper-linked text, should contain your important keywords. It is good to work with ten different options of title and description as it not only gives you more room to play with several keywords, but it also search engines give you a wider keyword coverage.
When soliciting external links, it is better to provide your own cut and paste HTML code. Webmasters like it when a ready to paste HTML code is available for them to use, to provide a link to your website.
Consider the following examples:
“Website Promotion & Search Engine Optimization”

http://www.seorank.com/link-building-costs-calculator.php
Notice how not only each of the title anchor text is optimized to contain important keyword phrases, but also that the description text varies to accommodate more keyword variation. Also, note that each variation has a different landing page URL to boost the relevance of your site s individual pages depending upon the theme of that page.
Links from external sites help your site to gain relevance for keywords mentioned in the anchor text which boosts your site s ranking. As the number of such inbound links increase, so will your site s ranking in SERPs.
Anchor text therefore comes on top of the checklist in your SEO initiatives.

Search Engine Optimization - A Must
As you surf the web take a look around at many of the sites you see. Do you notice anything that seems strange? Well, let me point it out to you. There are hundreds of thousands of web sites that just don t get much traffic. Some of these sites house hundreds of articles, reviews, tutorials, tools, products, forums to mention a few things, yet still they do not receive large amounts of traffic. What is their problem? They have the content. What is left?
The problem is these sites aren’t optimized for the search engines. SEO, Search Engine Optimization, SE Friendliness, however you refer to it doesn’t matter, the fact is it works and I’m going to tell you what’s involved.
Before we continue let me familiarize you with some relevant terminology in my own words.
**Search Engine Optimization**
Search engine optimization can be referred to as the addition and modification of all variables and extended variables of a web site in hopes of achieving a better position in the search engines. By variables I mean components of a website such as META tags and content. By extended variable I mean things such as links from other sites.
Different SEOs, search engine optimizers, may have different opinions on this but alas this is only my own.
**What is a Search Engine Optimization Company? **
A search engine optimization company is a company that offers the service of creating and adjusting all the variables involved in search engine optimization in order to get your web site the best ranking they can achieve, during the designated project period, for all the major search engines.
**Search Engine Optimization Hurdles**
Back to the question of why these sites rich with content aren’t bringing in the numbers. There are several reasons why sites small and large aren’t optimized for the search engines, fortunately these can be remedied.
1. Many webmasters/site owners believe in “If You Build It They Will Come”. This attitude will get your web site no where fast. Sure if you build it you will get users maybe even a decent amount of users but you will not be unleashing the real potential of your web site.
2. Not feeling that your site can do better than it is. Websites can always be further optimized. Search engines change their algorithms all the time so what worked 2 months ago may not work as well or at all in present times. For any of you that fee you can get your site optimized better, think of the story of the Little Engine and don t think you can, KNOW YOU CAN.
3. Laziness is also a major contributing factor. Many webmasters feel it is just too hard or too time consuming to do search engine optimization.
This is partially true. Search engine optimization is not easy but then again, anyone can do it. It does take time though and time is a precious commodity. In situations where you just can’t devote the time to search engine optimize your site I would recommend seeking the services of a professional search engine optimization company. You can choose one here http://www.lilengine.com/seo-companies.php
4. Time + cost = a deterrent. For a situation like this I would recommend optimizing little by little on your own. Eventually you will become better and better at it and be able to accomplish more in less time.
5. Another problem is many people think “Well my site is only a small site, there is no way I will be able to compete with the larger sites that have top spots in the search engines”. If you think like this I d like to say this to you. It is possible that that if you optimize your web site you may not be able to compete with the larger sites and may not be able to get a page 1 or 2 ranking in any of the search engines, BUT, what if you did. Always shoot for the stars so if you fall short you will at least hit the sky.
Now for those of you who plan to better your websites via Search Engine Optimization here are the stages you need to follow in order to have an efficient and effective SEO campaign.
**Planning Your Search Engine Optimization Campaign**
Planning is an essential factor in your SEO campaign. Knowing exactly what steps you are going to make and in what order and how you are going to go about achieving each of those steps will save you not only time but it will save you frustration as well. Planning is essential.
**Researching the Most Effective SEO Strategies**
What works and what does not. You will need to learn as many optimization strategies as you can that are currently effective with the search engines. This will be one of the most time consuming steps in your SEO campaign as you will have to sift through information as well as participate in SEO related forums to get additional information from professional. You can take this process in stages and apply your newly gained knowledge as you get it. There is also some useful software available both free and paid that will greatly help with this effort. WebPosition Gold is one of the more popular ones.
**Search Engine Optimize Your Site**
This should be done in stages so you can see the effectiveness of the applied strategies you are using. Don t change your entire site all at once, instead, change a few areas at a time and see what results they produce. If you are satisfied with this then move on and optimize another section.
Search engine optimization does not only deal with your site it also deals with the relationship other sites have with yours and yours with theirs. Keep this in mind when utilizing your link building strategies.
**Monitor Your SEO Progress**
There are many ways to do this you will have to find the best method for you. You will need to monitor your search engine ranking for the keywords you are targeting after each update. Changes should be recorded and used as references to monitor progress and for strategy adjustments. There are many tools for this process as well. I recommend SEOCount.com for monitoring your progress on the Google search engine as it is very easy to use and you can monitor several domains and keywords all from within the same account. It also gives you the option of viewing the number of backlinks.
These steps follow the Plan Do Review methodology which is a proven strategy for engaging in any task. It is again unfortunate that there are so many webmasters who overlook this entire process; hopefully this article will stop you from making this same mistake. Personalized Search (The Death of SEO?) (WebProNews)
Search Engine Optimization has been a topic of debate since the concept was developed in the mid 1990 s. Some think of it as techniques to artificially inflate organic rankings, in essence, to trick search engines to send them traffic that they do not deserve. I am not saying that people have used techniques to accomplish this for their websites and called it SEO, however, SEO is not a …

Search Engine Optimization Penalties - Ignorance Is No Excuse
High site rankings on the major search engines are the end-all and be-all of web site owners. High Google Rankings: Frequency vs. Positioning
There’s an assumption that the higher a ranking or positioning you have with major search engines; the more people will beat a path to your web doorstep. But based on my experience, that’s simply not true! There’s another factor that is just as important and may actually drive more traffic to your site.
This big secret is frequency: The number of times your name appears when someone enters a key word in a search engine. I believe that the more times you appear in a search, the greater the likelihood of someone actually clicking through to your site.
How do you get frequent listings in search engines? Write quality content articles.
I m an investment advisor and a while ago I started a second web site (www.successful-investment.com) to promote my weekly mutual fund newsletter, capture potential prospect names and house a library of my published articles.
To get people to the site, I naturally wanted to move up in the search engine food chain. I did the usual meta tag things, but that didn’t cause my rise in the rankings. What did cause it surprised me.
One of my first articles ( Do lifestyle funds provide greater security? ) was submitted to some 30 article banks and web sites. Many of them reprinted it, which increased the number of appearances of my name associated with the topic. Since many of these sites were already ranked high on the search engines, I rode on their success.
Searching Google for “Lifestyle funds” produces over 3 million results. On the first page of results my article is listed four times, on the second page three times and on page three it’s listed three times, and so on. If you were searching this term, with that much presence you would not likely overlook me.
In addition to generating hits on my web site from potential clients, my frequent listing in search engines yielded another benefit: I was invited to CNNfn’s Hollywood studio to discuss my article How to evaluate load vs. no load mutual funds. They found me by searching Google for “load vs. no load.” That produced almost 5 million results and on the first page my article appears three times, on the second three times and on the third three time as well and some included my company listing. I was an authority!
In the past six months I have written and published 17 articles with the key search terms being part of the title. I pretty much get similar results with all of them. Why? I believe quality content is a key.
My core business is “personal investment management.” If you search that on Google you will get about 11 million results. I currently rank number 8. And that’s among the who s who in investment management, companies that invest big bucks to manipulate getting high rankings on search engines.
Can I improve on that? Probably not by trying to manipulate positioning, but definitely with frequency. And that comes from writing articles.
Now, maybe you like this idea but think you can’t write quality articles. I’m not a writer, but my articles get picked up by e-zines and article banks all the time. How does that happen? It’s actually simpler than you think.
There are two aspects to writing; 1. the actual content and 2. the writing style. If you ve been in business for any length of time you have a wealth of information that you take for granted but others would love to know about. You should be able to write a 300 to 800 word article about your product or service area. Don t worry about the style; just write quality content that will be helpful to your potential customers.
Although my writing skills are pretty sharp because I do a lot of writing, I would not consider them to be on the same level as a professional writer. So I have a second secret to success.
One of my clients is an award winning Hollywood writer and he enhances my articles. It s usually not a lot of work, but at times I need a better transition from point A to point B. Since the content is clear and basically organized, he doesn’t have to spend any time researching or “doing the heavy lifting.” He can devote his attention to enhancing the quality of the presentation, and that doesn’t take long or cost much.
[If you need help with writing you may contact Laren Bright (punster@earthlink.net) and tell him I sent you.]
I think you will find that writing articles becomes a lot easier once you have that kind of assistance. It certainly became stress-free for me when I didn’t have to worry about form and could concentrate on my long suit: content.
It s hard to beat the results that my articles have produced for me in terms of exposure, Google rankings and new clients. Given these facts I propose that frequency beats positioning anytime. Try it and see if it boosts your rankings and your business.

Branding Versus SEO
Branding versus search engine optimization is a marketing dilemma that larger companies will need to come to grips with on the Internet. Often companies will need to decide whether to promote their own brand name as their main keyword phrase or optimize for a more generic keyword phrase.
For instance, one search engine report states that 1.3 million visitors per month search for the term “Best Buy.” This same report states that the term “electronics” is searched for by 1.1 visitors per month. The obvious choice in this scenario is for Best Buy to optimize for their own brand name first and the word “electronics” second.
But, take a competitor such as Fry’s Electronics. Approximately 95,000 visitors search for the term “Fry’s” every month, far short of those who search for “electronics”. Does this mean Fry’s Electronics (a partner with Outpost.com) should optimize for “electronics” first and Fry’s (and/or Outpost.com) second?
At this writing (August 2004), a search on Google for “electronics” will show that Best Buy does not show up in the first two pages. Fry’s (Outpost.com) is on the third page. But let’s take a further look to see who is in the number 1 position: Sony. And Samsung is a close second.
Sony, with 450,000 searches per month for the word “sony”, has managed to grab the number one spot for its brand name and the generic word “electronics”. A search of the Sony homepage source code will reveal that this page is optimized for both words, “Sony” and “electronics.” By optimizing for both words Sony has grabbed a lot of traffic neglected by Best Buy and perhaps even exceeds Best Buys traffic in doing this.
Another issue in branding is trademark infringement. Courts have upheld that websites using another company’s branded name in its meta tags is engaging in trademark infringement. For instance, a site about cats would be infringing if it put the name Best Buy in its meta tags in hopes of gaining traffic from this trademarked word. Large companies have to protect themselves from others stealing traffic that is rightfully theirs. These companies cannot however protect a generic term such as “electronics” as that is fair game for all electronics companies.
So in order to create the largest return on investment, large companies need to optimize their websites both for their own brand names and for the generic, high-traffic keywords and keyword phrases relevant to their sites. Otherwise, they are letting tons of online business just slip away.

Reciprocal links have been much maligned in recent months. This article discusses link building and whether reciprocal linking is fatally flawed.
SEO - Search Engine Linking Strategies III
One way links back to your site can be achieved in a number of ways. You could request one. However, a high ranking site is not going to provide you with a link free of charge, so you could either pay a monthly fee for it, or provide some other service in return. Another way is to submit your website to site directories- as many as you can. Most directories have free submissions that can take a long time to set up, and might require a reciprocal link, and also paid submissions that promise fast-tracked submission, but that require a regular subscription payment. The paid subscriptions, however, do not insist on a reciprocal link. Each submission provides you with a link back to your home page. Article marketing is another way of securing one way back links. For every directory your article is submitted to and accepted…

Marketing Articles: Getting A Better Search Engine Rank For All Of Your Pages!
In one of my articles, I discussed how to market your web site link twice. It detailed out how to promote not only www.yoursite.com but how you should also promote your site without the www., like this: http://yoursite.com.
This article is to talk about promoting ALL of your pages within your marketing campaign. See, most of us typically only promote the main page on our sites. Ex. www.yoursite.com. The truth is, your site is much more than just the 1st page right? Well, let’s condition ourselves to promote everything available within your site…
Search Engine Marketing is crutial for all companies who want to succeed online. I’m sure at one point or another, you will hear how “Optimizing your site for search engines is crutial”. Of course, they aren’t fooling you, it is a crutial marketing tactic but, what is also crutial is learning how to use different tools to boost your search engine placements once you’ve optimized your site for the web.
So let’s talk about the marketing tactics available to you and implement strategies on how to promote all your pages within them.
LINK EXCHANGES:
Link popularity has become a norm for most small companies to implement in their daily promoting activities. Here’s the problem, most companies that perform link exchanges daily fail to utilize it to their advantage. For ex. Let’s say you perform approximately 10 link exchanges daily. For each one, you submitted your link “www.yoursite.com“. What you’ll want to start implementing is submitting 10 different links within your site.
Ex Link Exchanges:
Link #1: http://yoursite.com
Link #2: http://yoursite.com/resources
Link #3: http://www.yoursite.com/services
And so on…
A good strategy would be to open up “Note Pad” and create all the links you want to promote.
1. Add each link
2. Assign an appropriate title to each link
#/TITLE#
3. Create an appropriate description for each link
Now all you have to do is to copy and paste each link when performing your daily link exchanges.
WRITING ARTICLES:
Do you write articles to promote your site??? If you do, then you probably have created a “Resource Box” at the end of each article right??? Good, let’s change the resource box a little.
My site is host to 100’s of Marketing Articles and the 1 thing I notice time & time again is that each author (no disrespect to any of the wonderful authors) Typically only add the main page of their web site within their “resource box”.
Ok, let’s say you write articles about “Search Engine Marketing”. At the end of the article, add a link to a page on your site that talks about “Search Engine Marketing” or something similar.
Ex. http://www.yoursite.com/search_engine_marketing.html
So with that in mind, try revising all your articles to point to specific pages on your web site.
DIRECTORY SUBMSSIONS:
Submitting your site to directories will give your site long lasting traffic. Not all directories will accept any link from your site besides the main page. This is ok though, there are literally 100’s of other directories that will allow you to submit any page you want.
Experiment with this and try to change up all your links when your submitting to directories.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND : Using anything other than your main page for directories like: OPD Open Project Directory or Yahoo.
So now you have 3 proven marketing strategies on how to improve your search engine placements for all of your pages instead of only your main page. Be creative with this and look for more strategies you can implement this tactic with.

Seo Firms
E-commerce has become the most significant characteristic of international commerce and business activity. Most firms are undertaking marketing operations with the help of the Internet and are using search engine marketing strategy as online marketing tools. Not all business managers have complete knowledge of IT, and often hire search engine marketing firms (SEM) that have expertise in search engine marketing optimization. These firms are also known as SEO firms.
Search Engine Optimization Techniques For High Search Rankings
First of all, why do you want high search rankings? I know that sounds like a crazy question, but I am assuming that the person reading this article may or may not have a background in search engine marketing. When you build your website, and you want to drive traffic to that website, one of the ways you should want to do just that is to gain high search engine rankings so that when people search for keywords related to your website, your website will rank high in the search rankings. The higher you are in the search rankings when someone searches for your keyword or related keywords to your website, the higher the chance they will click in to your website. So the bottom line is, you want high search engine rankings, so that you will receive more traffic to your website, which in turn should mean, if your website…

Optimize your Search Engine Placement Five Easy Ways
If you are like me, you created web site metatags with the help of your Web master. Maybe like me, you didn’t spend time or money submitting to search engines because you weren’t techie enough.
Now you can optimize your search engine placement these five easy, non-techie ways. My Web site is now # 1 in Google.com and others. If you are in the top ten listings in your category (mine was book coaching) you are in good shape. This placement has put my web site URL on 4700 other sites with a link back to mine. With targeted viral marketing my sales are 30 times what I started with each month–now over $4500.
Here’s Five Ways to Get Search Engines to Boost your Ratings:
1. Makeover your signature file that goes out with every email you send. Include your fre.e report or ezine offer, your email, URL, and phone numbers plus a line with your product or service name on it. See more on this in my fre.e article “Top Ten Things to Do to Make your Signature File Sell” at www.bookcoaching.com/freearticles/article124.shtml.
2. Submit short articles to dozens of opt-in ezines who need content daily. Make a special offer in each signature file that relates to your article. Through a hyperlink, offer a free ezine with a free report by autoresponder. To get started, go to www.yahoogroups.com and subscribe to one of the opt-in ezines (no spam).
3. Rewrite your best list of key words and phrases you used for your Web site. Incorporate them into your excellent, well-edited short articles or tips. For more information go to www.goodkeywords.com or see my special fre.e report “Know Which Key Words Will Bring Targeted Visitors to your Web Site” at www.bookcoaching.com/freearticles/article-47.shtml
4. Submit to top Web sites looking for new content.. They want and need your information, because that is why people visit any site–for free information. Follow directions for each site. Many want a list of key words and a description. Others require your article by autoresponder. Four years ago, my URL was on 987 other Web sites. Today it’s on 4700. Amazing viral marketing!
5. Makeover your Web home page. Place those top key words and phrases in the top half of this page and in the links you list along the bottom or side of your page. Search engines pick up these and you receive a higher placement. For instance, my top key words include: book coaching, eBook, ePublishing, self-publishing, Online promotion, Web copywriting, Free Publicity.
Yes, you can buy key words and put paid ads in Google and Overture, but when I tried that I got almost 0 results and spent a lot of money. The above ways to boost your search engine placement are totally free. It’s a building process this viral marketing, but if you are willing to stay a while, you’ll get money results as well as becoming well known and trusted for your product or service.

SEO - Off Page Techniques For Optimization
SEO - Off Page Techniques For Optimization
Many SEO techniques you might have read about advise you to submit to search engines. For many SEO off page techniques, it might actually hinder the use of EWO for your site. The first thing that SEO off page technique does for your site is attract spiders. The second thing it does, and this is the main purpose behind an SEO off page Technique, is that it attracts visitors. When using off page SEO techniques, one of the things you need to be aware of are the various types of links that are out there.

Optimizing Your Site To Get Top Billing At Search Engines
When a user enters a search term, also known as a ‘keyword,’ into a search engine, the engine runs through the billions of pages in the database and awards each one a ‘relevancy score.’ The higher your score, the higher your listing. If your site doesn’t contain the keyword used by the searcher, the only score it’s going to get is a big, fat zero. Your first task then is to make sure you know which keywords are most relevant for each of your sites.

Top 5 Search Engine Optimization Mistakes
There are a lot of ways to promote your website and, unfortunately, a lot of these methods are mistakes. Here is a list of some of the more common mistakes (often referred to as Black Hat SEO) that you should steer well clear of.
1. Bad Neighbourhoods
These sites are also known as free for all (FFA) pages and link farms. They serve no other purpose other than to list tens of thousands of unrelated websites. Not only will these sites not provide your site with any traffic, certain search engines will ban sites who participate.
2. Over Optimization
Optimizing your web pages for a particular search engine can be a good thing. Over-optimizing can defeat the purpose, however. Search engines are catching on quickly to pages that appear over-optimized . Stuffing keyphrases into your pages is the most common problem. Never use hidden (invisible) text to add keywords. You will get caught, and your site will get banned.
3. Doorway Pages
Doorway pages are orphaned web pages that are typically optimized for a particular keyphrase and a particular search engine. They are promoted to the search engine in an effort to achieve high rankings. They are not linked back to by any other page on the website and, as such, search engines are able to flush them out quite easily and penalize the entire site.
4. Traffic Generation Scams
Services that purport to drive lots and lots of traffic to your website are typically not very useful. The traffic tends to come from seedy places like domain names that have lapsed in payment or commonly misspelled domain entries. Most of the traffic that hits these pages is accidental and is therefore of no value to you. Other traffic may come from other participants in the program who are required to visit other websites to gain credits for their own site. Again, this traffic is not targeted and therefore of no value. Some traffic may even be generated by automated software!
5. Shadow Domains
Shadow domains are small, optimized, supplementary websites designed to drive traffic to a different website. The way this works is that an SEO company will design and optimize a website on your behalf. The danger here is that the you do not own this new website; the SEO company does! This means that if the relationship sours, they may choose to redirect this site s traffic to whomever they choose (see #4 above), or even sell the site to one of your competitors! Be very, very careful of this technique, as some supposed search engine experts even use this method (no naming of names here, however).
One final note: Any company that tells you that it can achieve guaranteed rankings is either lying to you or using some of these Black Hat techniques. Unfortunately, there is no way to guarantee a number one result within (unpaid) search results. When choosing a search engine optimization company to work with, be sure you feel comfortable with them and trust them (e.g. money back guarantee). And if you decide to promote your website yourself, consider yourself a little better educated against these common mistakes.

EO for CEOs Search Engine Optimization Unmasked for CEOs
If you re like most other CEOs, the term search engine optimization will mean very little. Either that or it means expense! But it doesn t have to be that way If you feel like you re standing in a dark room handing money to strangers to get you in the search engines, then this article is for you.
This is an article written by a business owner for other business owners and CEOs. It explains Search Engine Optimization (or SEO) in layperson s terms. It won t make you an expert, but it will give you some insight into what you re spending your money on, what you should be spending your money on, and just as importantly, what you shouldn t.
But before launching straight into an explanation of SEO, let s talk a bit about search engines. Approximately 75%-80% of website traffic comes through search engines. What s more, research shows that most people don t look beyond the first 2 pages of search results. This means if your website doesn t rank in the first 2 pages of the major search engines, it s only receiving 20% of its rightful traffic and revenue. (And remember, being ranked number 1 when you search for your company name or web address doesn t count. You need to rank highly for the words your customers use at search engines.)
The biggest concern for search engine companies like Google, Yahoo, etc., is finding content that will bring them more traffic (and thus more advertising revenue). They do this by using complex algorithms to determine whether a site is useful and should be included in their search results.
This is where SEO comes in.
SEO is the art of ranking in the search engines. Nothing more, nothing less.
SEO means creating your site such that the search engines consider it useful. The two main weapons in your arsenal are:
Keywords
Links to your site
KEYWORDS
Figure out what words your customers are looking for at search engines, and use those words at your site. By frequently using keywords that are important to your customers, you tell the search engines what you do. These keywords are used in your copy and in the code behind the page. Generally speaking, the more you use the keywords, the more relevant you are to searches in that field.
Keywords in Your Copy
The use of keywords in your copy is easy to understand. But it s not easy to do. You can t just pepper your site with a meaningless array of words. The trick is using the most important keywords a lot without compromising the readability of your copy. It s a balance between writing for the search engines and writing for your reader.
TIP: If you find this too time consuming, a website copywriter can take care of it for you. And if you know your keywords already, it should cost you no more than normal web copy.
Keywords in Your HTML Code
The use of keywords in your HTML code is harder to understand, but it s easier to do. There are four main places these keywords are used:
Keywords
Description
Alt
Title
TIP: When you hear people talking about meta tags, this is what they re talking about. To see how meta tags are used in practice, go to Google and pretend you re a customer. Search for something your customers would search for. e.g. If you re in car audio, search for car audio . Click on the first couple of results to bring up their website. Right-click on the home page, and select View Source . You ll see a whole lot of code. You can ignore most of it. What you re looking for are the following
meta name=”KEYWORDS” CONTENT=”keyword 1,keyword 2,keyword 3″
meta name=”DESCRIPTION” CONTENT=”Meaningful description of page using the main keywords”
img src=”filename.gif” alt=”Meaningful description of picture using the main keywords”
The title of the page using the main keywords
Take a look at the way the creators of the site have used keywords in these areas, and follow their lead. You already know they re ranked highly, so chances are they ve done a good job. Alternatively, take a look at my site, http://www.divinewrite.com to see how I ve done mine.
LINKS TO YOUR SITE
Now that you know how to tell the search engines what you do, let s talk about how to convince them you re important.
Links to your site (or inbound links ) are the most important factor in ranking. The more links you have to your site from other sites, the better your ranking (related sites generate better rankings).
TIP: Think of the Internet as a big election. All the websites in the world are candidates, and all the links to those websites are votes. The more votes (links) a candidate (website) has, the more important it is, and the higher its ranking.
There are many possible ways to generate links. Some are dubious (like auto-generation software). Others are legitimate, but offer limited results (like asking customers and suppliers to list you on their sites, and adding your site to various business directories). You can experiment with these methods, but I ve always found the best way to generate inbound links is to write helpful articles and let publishers of newsletters and e-zines use them for free on the proviso that they link back to your site.
People who publish e-Zines and newsletters are always hungry for quality content. And there are websites out there dedicated to giving them just that. If you submit a well written, relevant, helpful article to one of those sites, you can have thousands of newsletter publishers ready to snap it up. Then you just sit back and watch the links multiply!
TIP: This method is beneficial in other ways too. Readers of your article will see that you know what you re talking about, and because you re published, they ll see you as an authority.
It s impossible to say how much time you ll need to spend generating links. You just have to keep at it until you have achieved a high ranking. Even then, you ll still need to dedicate some ongoing time to the task, otherwise your ranking will drop.
Summary
So to cut a long story short, it comes down to this. If you have a lot of the right keyword phrases, used in real sentences, distributed realistically throughout your site, and a lot of links from other relevant sites, you stand a good chance of being ranked highly.
That s what you re paying your providers for. And that s what SEO is all about.

Types of SEO Services
Types of SEO Services
Search engine optimization (SEO) experts have gained popularity these days because their services have become essential in site optimization. Optimizing the site involves the modification of the websites to rank it high in the result pages. Experts provide many types of services to their clients. A wise and normal SEO provider proposes affordable search engine optimization services (SEO services) for almost all small and middle sized companies. However, the types of SEO services can be broadly classified into two categories namely on-page optimization and off-page optimization.
How to Rank Higher on Search Engines by Getting High Page Rank
It is important for your website to be on good terms with search engines so that you can get organic traffic to your site. And in order to do so, you need to achieve high page rank on your web pages. You are given a high page rank on your pages when search engines find your site valuable, and when you gets the recognition, it shows that you are rank high on search engines, thus given access to free traffic from search engines.
Google Loves Words
“A picture paints a thousand words” - we’ve all heard this one but on the Internet, while Google remains to be King of the top search engines in majority of countries all around the world, this is not the case. Google prefers words and text. This is a concept that not many people can understand and familiarize themselves with because we’re still stuck in the conventional world of illustrating our message across to our target readers through pictures and elaborate drawings. But if you want yourself to rank highly in Google, it’s simple - feed it what it wants and that’s words and text.
SEO Potential
SEO Potential is the possibility that your web site can gain a certain level of search engine optimization. So what can you do to improve your SEO potential? To improve your SEO potential, obtain high-quality incoming links: Get yourself listed in a directory related to your industry, even if you have to pay for it. People interested in products or services in your industry will consult such directories, which could in turn drive traffic to your site. To improve your SEO potential, don’t use ….
